Spring is in full swing here in Nebraska! If you’re like some of us, you’ve got a laundry list of items to cross off for “Spring Cleaning”. Read on to learn some tips from the staff here at Union Title!

Start from top to bottom, ceilings to floor. Work smarter, not harder! Cleaning from the top to bottom will help minimize the need to go back over areas you’ve already worked on. -Kelsie, Order Entry

Dust off the blades of your ceiling fan using a pillowcase. Climb a ladder until you can reach one blade without overextending yourself. Take a pillowcase and put it around the ceiling fan blade (just like you would a pillow). Then, as you pull the pillowcase off the blade, wipe all the dust from the top so it falls into the pillowcase. Turn the fan and repeat on each blade.

“Declutter along the way! Find at least three things (big or small) from each room to donate or toss.”

To clean and deodorize a mattress – fill a sifter with about a cup of baking soda. Sprinkle directly onto mattress. Let sit for about an hour to soak up the odors, then vacuum it up. If you like, you can add a few drops of an essential oil to the baking soda.

De-gunk your showerheads and faucets, especially if you have hard water. – Take a Ziploc bag and fill it with white vinegar.  Place over shower head and secure with a rubber band.  Let soak for an hour then remove the bag and turn on the water to flush.  Polish with a soft cloth.

Open your windows and allow your rooms to “breathe”. Having the windows shut all winter can leave the house seeming musty. Opening the windows/doors allows fresh air to circulate.

Speaking of windows, don’t forget the outside! They can get very dirty throughout the winter. Having the professionally cleaned, or doing it yourself will leave them crystal clear.
